REPORT OF ONAM CELEBRATION 2008
Soorya Social Club celebrated Onam, the symbol of love, peace and prosperity on 4th October 2008 at High Wycombe. With much fervour, the celebrations saw a glimpse of Kerala with the vivid exhibition of culture, music and tradition.
Function started with the traditional Ona sadhya, which was well enjoyed by everyone.
Cultural programme started at 3pm with prayer song and welcome and introductory speech by Mr. Sivaprasad Bharathan, President of Soorya Social club. The chief guest was Mr.Jayaprakash Panicker; Secretary of Sangeetha of UK who inaugurated the function by lighting the traditional lamp. Arrival of Maveli and athapookakalm were very colourful.
There were variety of stage events viz, thiruvathira, oppana, dandia, cinematic dance, classical dance, instrumental music, musical jugalbandi, fancy dress, skit and ganamela by Sruthi orchestra. All the programmes were well coordinated and kept to high standard. The live music in the form of tabala and keyboard was appreciated by everyone. Raffle draw was conducted and prizes distributed. All the participants in stage events are given a trophy as a token of appreciation. Programmes compared by 2 youngsters. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Mrs. Asha Mathew, secretary of Soorya social club.
The function was a great success with the effort, hard work and dedication of committee members and non-committee members. We have received positive feed back from many people who attended the function.
